alligators (noun, slang) Pieces of tire tread that are laying on the road.
AMA (abbreviation) American Motorcycle Association.
ATGATT (abbreviation) All The Gear All The Time.
back protector (noun) A protective device worn to protect the spine and shoulder blades from injury.
BDC (abbreviation) Brain Dead Cager.
bikini fairing (noun) A fairing that provides overall aerodynamic qualities yet does not completly cover the motorcycle (for example, 2003 Aprilia Tuono 1000 R). See fairing, full fairing, half fairing, quarter fairing.
bling 1. (noun, slang) An aftermarket item added to a motorcycle that has no purpose other than to look "cool". See farkle.

2. (adjective, slang) Describes an object that is a bling.
boat (noun, slang) An overly large and heavy motorcycle or car.
bott's dots (noun, slang) Reflectors that are glued in the road.
brain bucket (noun, slang) A helmet.
BRC (abbreviation) Basic Rider's Course.
bullet bike (noun, derogatory) A derogatory term for a sport bike used most often used by people who are anti-motorcycles (reference CBS show "West 57th Street" where the term was brought to the public, and reference Senator John Danforth who used the term often in his campaign to ban high performance motorcycles). See sport bike.
cage (noun, slang) A vehicle with four or more tires, usually a car. See cager.
cager (noun, derogatory) A person who drives a cage. See cage.
CamelBak (noun) A backpack manufactured by CamelBak Products, Inc. containing a water bladder and a hose.
can (noun, slang) A muffler.
carving (verb) To ride hard and fast on roads with many turns. See twisties.
chicken strips (noun) The unused portion on the sides of a motorcycle's tires.
combat commute 1. (verb) To ride a motorcycle in a "take no prisoners" style while communiting to save time.

2. (adjective) One who combat commutes.
counter steer (verb) To push on the handle bars causing the motorcycle's front tire to move counter to the direction of the turn in order to initiate leaning.
crotch rocket (noun, slang) A sport bike. See sport bike.
curb monkey (noun, derogatory) A young woman who hangs around motorcycle gatherings in the hope of picking up a ride.
decreasing radius turn (noun) A curve that gets progressively tighter. See twisties and sweeper.
dino oil (noun, slang) Oil that is derived from refining the compressed and long decayed remains of prehistoric reptiles. See synth.
dinosaur (noun, slang) A vehicle that is old or built with outdated technology.
DNF (abbreviation) Did Not Finish.
do a ton (verb) To ride a motorcycle at speeds in excess of 100 mph.
duel sport (noun) A duel purpose motorcycle made for both off-road and street riding.
dynamometer (noun) An instrument used to measure the horse power of a vehicle at the tires.
dyno (noun) A dynamometer. See dynamometer.
ERC (abbreviation) Experienced Rider's Course.
fairing (noun) A member or structure whose primary function is to produce a smooth outline and to reduce drag.
farkle 1. (noun, slang) An aftermarket item added to a motorcycle. For example, cigarrette lighter, cup holder, cruise control, heated grips, power supplies, extra lights, radar detector, gps, XM radio, video camera, coffee maker, DVD player, etc. See bling.

2. (verb, slang) Describes an object that is a farkle.
filter (verb) To ride through traffic typically by changing lanes often and lane splitting.
forest rat (noun, slang) A deer.
full fairing (noun) A fairing that covers most of the motorcycle providing maximum aerodynamic qualities (for example, 2006 Kawasaki ZZR600). See bikini fairing, fairing, half fairing, quarter fairing.
get off (noun, slang) Unintentional separation of rider and motorcycle while the motorcycle is moving and the kickstand is up.
Givi (noun) Manufacturer of hard luggage for motorcycles.
half fairing (noun) A fairing that only covers the upper half of the motorcyle (for example 2003 Ducati 620 Sport Half-fairing). See bikini fairing, fairing, full fairing, quarter fairing.
heel-and-toe 1. (noun) The shift mechanism used with floor boards.

2. (verb) The style of shifting used when floor boards are installed.
high side 1. (noun) The side of the motorcycle that is farthest from the ground in a turn.

2. (verb) To crash from loss of and sudden restablishment of traction on the rear tire resulting in the motorcycle abruptly flipping over on the high side (the side farthest from the ground). Typically results from the rear tire losing traction while leaned over and then biting again launching the rider over the top of the motorcycle.
hole a piston (verb, slang) To burn a hole in a piston resulting in near total loss of compression in that cylinder. Usually the result of excessivley lean running conditions possibly exacerbated by problems related to an incorrect valve adjustment.
IB (abbreviation) Iron Butt. See iron butt.
IBA (abbreviation) Iron Butt Association. See iron butt.
iron butt 1. (adjective) Used to describe a rider who has ridden an extreme number of miles in a short period of time.

2. (adjective) A member of the Iron Butt Association.
kill switch (noun) The switch typically located on the right handle bar that turns off the engine by cutting off the power to the spark plugs.
knee drag (verb) To drag one's knee on the ground through a turn.
knee puck (noun) A knee slider. See knee slider.
knee slider (noun) A piece of metal or plastic affixed to the side of the knee to protect the knee when it comes in contact with the pavement usually as the result of an extreme lean angle. See lean angle.
land yacht See boat.
lane split (verb) To share a lane with or ride between other vehicles. Lane splitting is expressly illegal in all states except California.
lean angle (noun) The amount a motorcyle is leaned over in a turn.
leathers (noun) Protective clothing made from leather. See textiles.
LEO (abbreviation) Law Enforcement Officer.
lid (noun, slang) A helmet.
low side 1. (noun) The side of the motorcycle that is closest to the ground in a turn.

2. (verb) To crash from loss of traction resulting in the motorcycle falling on the low side (the side closest to the ground). Typically results from loss of traction of the front tire but can result from the rear tire sliding out from under the motorcycle.
mid pipe (noun) The connector between the engine exhaust header and the muffler.

monkey butt (noun) A chafed rear end that comes from high humidity combined with a lot of riding.
MSF (abbreviation) Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
off-camber turn (noun) A road surface that slopes downward towards the outside of the corner.
panniers (noun) Hard saddle bags or luggage.
pavement surf (verb) To slide down the pavement. See road rash.
pillion (adjective) A passenger on a motorcycle.
pucker 1. (noun) A close call such as riding too fast into a corner, narrowly missing a deer, or nearly wrecking. Comes from the feeling experienced at the moment you realize that you have put yourself in immenent danger.

2. (verb) To experience a pucker.
quarter fairing (noun) A fairing the covers only the front top of the motorcycle (for example, 2003 Suzuki SV1000S). See bikini fairing, fairing, full fairing, half fairing.
road rash (noun) An injury caused by sliding on pavement and the skin being ground away.
road snake (noun) Cracks in the pavement that have been filled with tar. Road snakes can be very slippery when wet or sticky when very hot.
RUB (abbreviation) Rich Urban Biker.
saddle bags 1. (noun) Bags that hang on both sides of the rear of the motorcycle.

2. (noun, derogatory) Exceedingly large or wide hips of a passenger.
skid lid (noun, slang) A helmet.
slab 1. (noun, slang) A long stretch of straight road.

2. (noun, slang) A freeway.

3. (verb, slang) To ride on a slab.
spit off (verb) To be thrown off the motorcycle typically as a result of high siding. See high side.
squid 1. (noun, derogatory) A typically young motorcyclist who overestimates his abilities and boasts of his riding skills when in reality he has none. Squid bikes are usually decorated with chrome and various anodized parts. Squids ride really slow in the corners with sudden bursts of acceleration when a straight road appears. Squids usually wear no protection deeming themselves invincible. This fact compounds itself with the fact that they engage in "extreme riding"--performing wheelies and stoppies in public areas. Squids tend to wreck alot. Derived from "squirly kid".

2. (noun, derogatory) An extremely rare animal with a short lifespan. Usually a new sport bike enthusiast with the reasoning of a lunatic whom you might see thrashing on an R1 wearing sandals, shorts, and a t-shirt. When found lying motionless on the pavement, this creature transforms itself into a stream of blood, exposed flesh, and broken limbs. Hence the squid moniker.

3. (adjective, derogatory) Behaving as a squid.

4. (abbreviation) Stupid, Qick, Underdressed, and Inevitably Dead.
SSSA (abbreviation) Single-Sided Swing Arm.
stealer (noun, derogatory) A motorcycle dealership.
Stitch (noun) Another word for an AeroStitch Roadcrafter riding suit.
superslab See slab.
sweeper (noun) A long large curve that is typically a large radius. See decreasing radius turn and twisties.
synth (noun, slang) Synthetic oil. See dino oil.
tail bag (noun) A bag affixed to the back of the bike either on a mount or on the passenger seat.
tank bag (noun) A bag affixed to the gas tank.
tank slapper (noun) The violent shaking of the handle bars from side to side to the extent that the handle bars near make contact with the gas tank.
target fixation (noun) The natural propensity to lock one's attention on a object resulting in the motorcycle going straight for the object.
textiles (noun) Protective clothing made from cloth and other artificial materials. See leathers.
the pace (noun) A technique for riding a motorcycle on the twisties described by Nick Ienatsch in his article, "The Pace". See twisties.
thumper (noun, slang) A single cylinder, four stroke engine.
toe slider (noun) A piece of plastic or metal affixed to the toe of the boot to protect the boot tip when it comes in contact with the pavement usually as the result of extreme lean angles. See lean angle.
triple clamp (noun) The part of a motorcycle that holds each fork to the chassis.
twisties (noun) A series of tight curves. Usually referring to a series of 15-40 mph turns. See decreasing radius turn and sweeper.
two-up (adjective) Riding a motorcycle with a passenger.
uncommanded dismount See get off.
unsprung weight (noun) The weight of parts of the motorcycle that is not supported by the suspension (wheels, axles, brakes, etc.).
WOT (abbreviation) Wide Open Throttle.
